Caprivi (Zambezi Region)

Africa's best authentic tailor-made safaris

Namibia is known for its arid landscape, but this view shifts when you enter Caprivi. This lush, water-rich region offers luxury lodges and exclusive water-based safaris. Rivers run through this landscape, nourishing the land and attracting an abundance of wildlife.

Must-Visit Areas in Caprivi

Visit a secluded wildlife destination as well as the smallest game park in Namibia:

Bwabwata National Park: Escape the Well-Trodden Tourist Trail

If you want a unique Namibia safari experience far away from well-worn paths, Bwabwata is ideal. Bordered by the Okavango and Kwando Rivers, this park is a well-known wildlife corridor for elephants and predators. A highlight of a visit here is Horseshoe Bend, an oxbow lake with white sandy beaches surrounded by Zambezi teak, a popular spot for elephants.

Kwando and Zambezi Rivers: Boating Safaris

These rivers are fantastic additions to a Namibia safari itinerary if you want to go boating, fishing, or birdwatching. Cruise down these serene waterways to spot Nile crocodiles and pods of hippos, and see more birdlife and game along the shore.

The Zambezi River is a tigerfishing hotspot for anglers!

Popa Falls: Namibia’s Smallest Game Park

The Popa Falls are picturesque rapids along the Okavango River that’s home to more than 400 bird species, making it a perfect birdwatching safari stop. It’s located in Namibia’s smallest game park, Popa Falls Game Park, which offers hiking trails and fishing opportunities.

When’s the Best Time to Visit Caprivi?

May to October, the winter months, offer excellent wildlife viewing opportunities thanks to the dry weather. The best time to go fishing in Caprivi is during winter, too, when the water levels are lower and clearer. The rainy summer months, from December to January, are also prime fishing time.

Animals Found in Caprivi

Animals are attracted to the lush vegetation and permanent water sources, making this area perfect for wildlife viewing. Elephants, giraffes, zebras, and different antelope species thrive here. Predators include wild dogs, lions, leopards, and hyenas. Birdwatchers will love the over 450 species found here, including Okavango Delta specials. Keep an eye out for the rare Glossy ibis, Pel’s fishing owl, and African pygmy goose.

How to Get to Caprivi

You can get a charter flight to Katima Mulilo Airport in the heart of the Zambezi region.
